Welcome to a unique film concert where the Ostrobothnia Rhythm Orchestra performs music by composer Jussi Lampela for the film Meren kasvojen edessä! The film has text boxes in Finnish and Swedish.
Meren kasvojen edessä is a Finnish silent film made in 1926, directed and written by Teuvo Puro, then director of Kansallisteatteri. The film is an exciting adventure story about three young students who end up on the mysterious island of Hylkysaari during their summer sailing. On the island, the boys get to know the local inhabitants. But life on the island is not as idyllic as it first seems. There are secrets to discover. The film was so popular that it was also sold also in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
This performance adds a whole new dimension to the film, as the ensemble Ostrobothnia Rhythm Orchestra, consisting of 13 musicians, performs music by composer Jussi Lampela live along with the film. Lampela originally composed the music in 2015 for Loud Silents film festival for a smaller ensemble together with trumpetist Verneri Pohjola. The Ostrobothnia Rhythm Orchestra is an orchestra made up of professional musicians from Ostrobothnia, whose aim is to highlight musicians and composers living in the region. The orchestra has been active since 2020.
