Art exhibition: Kika Wikman – Woodcuts and Acrylic Paintings

Thu 14.8 16:30 - Tue 30.9 17:00

Free

Welcome to enjoy art by Kika Wikman in the upper foajé at Ritz! Exhibition will open on The Night of the Arts and be on display until the end of September. Open during events and per agreement.

Kika Wikman’s exhibition consists of woodcuts and acrylic paintings, that she have worked on simultaneously since 2018. Carving in wood and painting with acrylic are two very different ways of making a picture. Similarities in the approaches are a rhythmic and repetitive working.

“In woodcuts I carve out the picture and the final result can only be seen in the final impression, while in painting I add color and the picture is more spontaneous. In the exhibition I connect the carving and painting through color and line. My paintings are acrylic paint on wood or canvas and my woodcuts are printed with oil paint on different papers. The themes in the works vary, the woodcuts are usually born from an idea, a symbol or completely everyday things, which I transfer to the wood, carve and then print on paper. In my paintings it is the color that glows in abundance and the works can be interpreted as more abstract. Through painting I seek harmony and the final image is born through that.”
