Sisters Nora and Agnes Borg are forced to confront their difficult past when their estranged father, Gustav (Stellan Skarsgård)—a celebrated but fading film director—returns to Oslo after the death of their mother. Gustav tries to mend their broken relationship and revive his career by writing an autobiographical film based on his family’s trauma. When Nora (Renate Reinsve) rejects the lead role, Gustav casts a young Hollywood starlet, Rachel Kemp (Elle Fanning), setting the production inside the sisters’ childhood home and forcing the family to confront the line between art and personal betrayal.
