KUOLLEET LEHDET depicts two lonely people (Alma Pöysti and Jussi Vatanen), who by chance bump into each other in the Helsinki night, and their attempt to find the first, only and last love of their lives. The road to the honorable goal is shadowed by the man’s alcoholism, lost phone numbers, ignorance of names and addresses, and life’s general tendency to put obstacles in the way of those who seek happiness. This tender tragicomedy is the fourth part – thought to be lost – of Aki Kaurismäki’s working class trilogy (Shadows in Paradise, Ariel and The Girl from the Match Factory).
Falling Autumn Leaves was awarded the Prix du Jury at the Cannes Film Festival.
