Inspired by true events, Presidentin Kyyditys transports the viewer into the midst of the absurd events of 1930. During a night of heavy drinking, a group of ambitious officers decide to kidnap Finland’s first president – the already retired K. J. Ståhlberg. The headstrong President’s wife, Ester Ståhlberg, refuses to leave her husband’s side even in such a dire situation, and instead insists on joining the kidnappers in the back seat of the car. Thus begins an incredible journey through a turbulent Finland, where rumours and history become intertwined – and to this day, it remains unclear what was fact and what was fiction in the president’s abduction
