What really happened between Schneider and Brando?

When the promising 19-year-old actress Maria Schneider lands the lead role as Jeanne in Last Tango in Paris (1972), her happiness seems complete. The acclaimed Bernardo Bertolucci is directing, and her co-star is none other than the legendary Marlon Brando! But the dream soon turns into a nightmare. During filming, Maria is shaken by something so terrible that it affects the rest of her life.

Anamaria Vartolomei (César Award winner for Circumstances) plays Maria Schneider and Matt Dillon (Oscar nominee for Crash) plays Marlon Brando in this powerful, tragic and disturbing true story that takes place 45 years before MeToo changed the world. The story has caused much controversy and speculation over several decades, but it is only now that someone has dared to reveal the whole story in a feature film.

BEING MARIA is part of the official selection for the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and is a film that is sure to be talked about.
